Just call NFL’s Troy Polamalu the man with the million dollar hair.
The long, flowing black hair that tumbles out of Troy Polamalu’s helmet and down his back — it’s nearly three feet long — has been insured for $1 million by Head and Shoulders, the shampoo brand that is endorsed by the Pittsburgh Steelers safety.
The insurance was obtained through Lloyd’s of London, which did not reveal what must be done to Polamalu’s hair for anyone to collect on the policy.
Troy Polamalu’s hair has been targeted by an opposing NFL player at least once — the Chiefs’ Larry Johnson tackled Polamalu by the hair during a 49-yard interception return in a 2006 game.
Troy Polamalu, a five-time Pro Bowl player, wears his hair long as a tribute to his Samoan heritage.
August 30, 2010 – head & shoulders® announced today that they are taking out a $1 million dollar insurance policy on Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu’s trademark hair. The head & shoulders spokesperson’s iconic mane will be protected throughout the NFL season by the world’s leading insurance agency, Lloyd’s of London.
No other NFL player’s hair has been so recognizable to warrant this first ever type of insurance policy. In fact, Troy’s hair is so ridiculously full and thick that end to end it spans 100 football fields.
“head & shoulders has gone above and beyond by insuring my Samoan locks for a cool $1 million dollars. This reinforces that my full and thick hair is unstoppable,” says Troy Polamalu.
