(CBS/AP) Reggie Bush may be tough, but the New Orleans Saints running back is no match for a broken fibula.
The 25-year-old is looking at a six-week hiatus after breaking the right, lower leg bone Sunday in a game against the 49ers.
“It hurt like hell,” he said. “When I got back up and tried to walk on it, it felt terrible.”
Bush had trouble catching the ball at windy Candlestick Park in San Francisco. He dove for the ball and players landed on him.
“I tried to recover it and somebody took my leg out,” he said. “I don’t know who it was, what happened or how it happened.”
The fibula is the smallest bone of the four bones in the leg. It is generally immobilized in a cast to facilitate healing, which usually takes about six weeks. Some sports commentators have suggested he could be back within four. In either case, he is expected to return this season.
