Columbus Day, which is annually on the second Monday of October, remembers Christopher Columbus’ arrival to the Americas on October 12, 1492.
Columbus Day first became an official state holiday in Colorado in 1906, and became a federal holiday in 1937. Columbus Day 2010 is celebrated on October 11 holiday.
America isn’t the only country in the world to celebrate Columbus Day. The holiday does honor Christopher Columbus‘ arrival in the Americas, specifically the Bahamas, causing several European countries to make notice of it as well.
