Eid al-Adha is a Festival of Sacrifice. Eid al-Adha is an important religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide to commemorate the willingness of Abraham (Ibrahim) to sacrifice his son Ishmael (Isma’il) as an act of obedience to God, before God intervened to provide him with a ram to sacrifice instead. The meat is divided into three equal parts to be distributed to others. The family retains one third of the share, another third is given to relatives, friends and neighbors, and the other third is given to the poor & needy.

Selected Eid Ul Adha quotes from the Holy Quran
1:1 In the name of GOD, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
1:2. Praise be to GOD, Lord of the universe.
1:3. Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
1:4. Master of the Day of Judgment.
1:5. You alone we worship; You alone we ask for help.
1:6. Guide us in the right path
1:7. the path of those whom You blessed; not of those who have deserved wrath, nor of the strayers.
2:124. Recall that Abraham was put to the test by his Lord, through certain commands, and he fulfilled them. (God) said, “I am appointing you an imam for the people.” He said, “And also my descendants?” He said, “My covenant does not include the transgressors.”
2:125. We have rendered the shrine (the Ka`aba) a focal point for the people, and a safe sanctuary. You may use Abraham’s shrine as a prayer house. We commissioned Abraham and Ismail: “You shall purify My house for those who visit, those who live there, and those who bow and prostrate.”
2:126. Abraham prayed: “My Lord, make this a peaceful land, and provide its people with fruits. Provide for those who believe in GOD and the Last Day.” (God) said, “I will also provide for those who disbelieve. I will let them enjoy, temporarily, then commit them to the retribution of Hell, and a miserable destiny.”
2:140. Do you say that Abraham, Ismail, Isaac, Jacob, and the Patriarchs were Jewish or Christian? Say, “Do you know better than GOD? Who is more evil than one who conceals a testimony he has learned from GOD? GOD is never unaware of anything you do.”
9:18. The only people to frequent GOD’s masjids are those who believe in GOD and the Last Day, and observe the Contact Prayers (Salat), and give the obligatory charity (Zakat), and do not fear except GOD. These will surely be among the guided ones.
The sacrificial camels we have made for you as among the symbols from Allah. in them is (much) good for you: then pronounce the name of Allah over them as they line up (for sacrifice): when they are down on their sides (after slaughter), eat ye thereof, and feed such as (beg not but) live in contentment, and such as beg with due humility: thus have We made animals subject to you, that ye may be grateful.
~ Al-Hajj 22:36 – [Holy Quran]
Decked out fair to mankind is the love of lusts-women, children, stored-up heaps of gold and silver, horses of mark, cattle and tillage. That is the enjoyment of the life of the world; but God-with Him is the fairest resort. (3:14)
O believers, let not your wealth nor your children distract you from remembrance of Allah. Those who do so, they are the losers. (63:9)
89:15. When the human being is tested by his Lord, through blessings and joy, he says, “My Lord is generous towards me.”
89:16. But if He tests him through reduction in provisions, he says, “My Lord is humiliating me!”
89:17. Wrong! It is you who brought it on yourselves by not regarding the orphan.
89:18. And not advocating charity
towards the poor.
89:19. And consuming the inheritance of helpless orphans.
89:20. And loving the money too much.
29:45. You shall recite what is revealed to you of the scripture, and observe the Contact Prayers (Salat), for the Contact Prayers prohibit evil and vice. But the remembrance of GOD (through Salat) is the most important objective. GOD knows everything you do.

1. Festival of Sacrifice
Our lives are but a breath of air
Exhaled upon the earth.
It’s not for us to question this,
But choose to give it worth.
The eyes of Allah search the hearts
Of all who claim the land.
To find his faithful, motives pure,
Not coveting his hand.
Old Ibrahim esteemed his son
Most precious gift of all.
For fear Allah had been usurped,
The prophet’s faith was called.
To test the heart of Ibrahim,
He sought the highest price.
And told the prophet, give Ismael,
To be your sacrifice.
And as it was, the Tempter came
To make the prophet fail.
But stones were thrown ‘till Satan fled
By Hajar and Ismael.
Unwilling to defy Most High
No matter what the cost,
Ibrahim did as commanded,
prepared to suffer loss.
But Allah by his mighty hand
Had slain a sheep instead.
Thus, Ibrahim was quite relieved
To find his son not dead.
So with a heart refined by trial,
Ibrahim proved faithful.
And through the years we celebrate
This righteous man’s example.
So sacrifices are prepared
With portions for the poor.
And loved ones gather ‘round to pray
Such aromas, Allah adores.
2. I want you to take your only son
And place him on the cold stone
Then slaughter him like an animal
For my glory, and my glory alone
Faithful Abraham obeyed in kind
Bringing his beloved to be killed
His love for God was greater
A devotion that was fulfilled
His son strapped on the altar
The blade raised in the air
The hark to make him falter
Of an angel that stood fair
His son was not to be taken
A ram was used in his place
They praised God for provision
In him their faith was based
Count the blessings in your life
The shelter and food bestowed
The Festival of Sacrifice
Is meant for this purpose alone
3. Prayer to Allah
I thank thee seven times,
to run between Safa and Marwa again…
but then there between lies the Angel Jibral,
with his wings folded out and his gaze to the ground.
For here you have found us on bended knees fall,
I call for your help, and then Allah’s, and then
I watch as water shines,
I thank thee Zamzam Well,
which Prophets who own it would rather depend…
on whether to send to death Ismael his son…
cast his faith in Allah to the winds up above.
But then Allah’s Love for his Prophet had won
the life of his son, and his Lord’s love attend
this moment Satan fell,
I thank thee home and hearth,
where fam’lies together would now often spend
a long time just feasting on sacrificed sheep,
which you showed us, Allah, just how sacred life is.
And now Allah’s Love for His People, so deep,
shall certainly keep all his foll’wers… Amen…
pilgrimage to Mecca’s heart,
4. So once a year the time draws near
Where we reflect, think and ponder
Of Ibrahim’s sacrifice without much fear
For he is one of those brought near
Brought near God when he brought his son
“Oh beloved son, a dream I fear”
“A slaying of you, my son”
“So how judge you, of this matter?”
Without hesitation, a just replying:
“If indeed the will of God
“He shall find me steadfast, God willing”
