Columbian hottest pop star Shakira will perform the hit and Fifa World Cup 2010 official themesong “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” with South Africa’s Freshlyground at the closing ceremony of the 2010 World Cup South Africa. Others expected to perform include Grammy Award winners Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Stoan Seate, Jozi, Slikour, Zuluboy, Abigail Kubeka, Theo Kgosinkwe, Afrikaans artists Nianell and flutist Wouter, Nigeria’s 2Face, and popular local traditional group Ihashi Elimhlophe. The event will take place in Soccer City two hours before the title match on Sunday, July 11, 2010, the gig is promised to be “more youthful and a bit more technologically advanced” compared to the more traditionally opening ceremony.
Derek Carstens, chief marketing officer for the organizing committee, said that, “While the opening ceremony was more traditional in its approach, in order to do justice to Africa’s heritage, the closing ceremony will have more contemporary and youthful themes.” Spokesman Jermaine Craig added that the Sunday event will have “nice lighting effects and special effects planned.”
The 30-minute extended concluding ceremony of Fifa World Cup Football 2010 can start at 6.30pm at Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa. The closing ceremony are able to be broadcast make a home in 215 countries and more than 500 million viewers will watch the closing ceremony.
